React chart example
Grouped column chart
Compare several series side by side within each category, on one shared scale.
What is a grouped column chart?
A grouped column chart places a column for every series inside each category, so values sit side by side on a shared scale. Height carries the comparison both within a category and across them.
When to use it
Use it when you need to compare a handful of series across the same categories — regions by year, plans by segment. Beyond three or four series the groups get noisy; switch to small multiples or a line chart when the trend within each series matters more than the comparison inside each group.
Design tips
Keep the series order identical in every group so the eye can track one series across the chart.
Start the value axis at zero; grouped columns are read by height.
Put the series legend directly above the plot, in series order, rather than making the reader hunt for it.
