What is a 3D globe chart?
A globe chart projects country data onto a sphere, colouring or marking each territory by its value. The projection avoids the area distortion of a flat world map.
When to use it
Use it for global data where the roundness is part of the point, and for hero moments where the form earns attention. Use a flat map for analysis, because half the world is always hidden on a globe.
Design tips
Give readers a way to rotate, or choose a fixed orientation that contains the story.
Use a sequential scale with a legend, and handle missing countries explicitly.
Remember that area still misleads — large countries dominate regardless of population.
