React chart example
Choropleth map
Shade geographic regions by value.
What is a choropleth map?
A choropleth map colours each region — country, state, postcode — on a scale according to its value, so geography carries the comparison.
When to use it
Use it when location is genuinely part of the finding: regional adoption, election results, coverage. Use a bar chart when readers need to rank regions, because area and shape make precise comparison impossible on a map.
Design tips
Map a rate, not a raw count, or the map just shows where the people are.
Classify the scale deliberately and show the breaks in the legend.
Show regions with no data in a distinct neutral rather than the lowest colour.

Use for a global hero view where a sphere suits the story.
Use when place is irrelevant and categories should define both axes.
